MASS™

Module Examples

To Demonstrate

DISCLAIMER: All sample problems are provided for illustrative purposes only. The sample problems are meant to demonstrate the use of the software and should not be used for design.

The first three sample problems provide examples for a beam, out-of-plane wall, and shear wall assemblage, using each of the corresponding modules found in MASS™.  Additional sample problems are modified designs that users have submitted, and exemplify common issues designers face when using MASS™.

Beam Module Example

A three-block high single-wythe beam constructed with 20 cm normal weight units spans 4.8 m is modelled. Sample hand-calculations are compared with the MASS™ results.

Wall Module Example

A 5.8m high wall concrete block wall constructed using 20 cm, 15 MPa hollow, with No. 20 vertical bars are spaced at 1.2 m, is modelled. Sample hand-calculations are compared with the MASS™ results.

Shear Wall Module Example

A 2.6 m long by 4.6 m high concrete block masonry shear wall, reinforced with 4 No. 20 bars is modelled. Sample hand-calculations are compared with the MASS™ results.

Shearline Module Example

A 18 m long by 7.0 m high concrete block masonry shear wall system is modelled with 4 openings and 3 movement joints. Sample hand-calculations are compared with the MASS™ Version 2 results.
